SelectHikes.com Privacy Statement and Terms Of Use
This web site constitutes an "online guidebook" for activities that could be considered by some to be "high-risk", whatever that means. Coming from the mid-west myself, I have seen that being a lethargic couch potato is just about the most high-risk activity there is in terms of health issues, but who am I to judge. You could potentially get hurt engaging in outdoor activities, and SelectHikes accepts no responsibility for any injuries you may receive or actions you may take while engaged in outdoor pursuits. Pretty simple. Also, it's impossible to break your computer or GPS by trying to download routes to it, but if you somehow manage to do that, it's not our fault.
Advertising and Ad Blocking Software
This web site cannot exist without advertising, it is what pays for my time and hosting fees. The price you pay for having free and open access to this information is that you have to see some advertisements. The ads are delivered by Google and targeted specifically to this web site, and typically represent excellent discounts, coupons, or free days to events around Colorado. This web site can only continue to exist if visitors view advertisements. If you have ad blocking software installed, please consider this fact.
SelectHikes does not use Interest-Based Advertising:Many web sites are currently using an "interest-based advertising" system that captures data about what sites you have visited in the past in order to deliver ads that are supposedly more relevant to you. SelectHikes has found that this is an unnecessary invasion of privacy and therefore we do not use that system.
This web site DOES NOT have pop up ads, animated flashing ads, "you have just won $1,000,000" ads, or any of that garbage. SelectHikes has ads from real small business owners that want to help you enjoy your time in the mountains, plain and simple.
So do all of us a favor and turn off the ad-blocking software. This site cannot exist if everyone blocks advertisements, they are what allow me to provide this information to you free of charge. If you happen to go to a web site that bothers you with pop up ads and other garbage, don't go to that web site anymore, and send them a complaint via email if you have the time. THAT IS THE BEST AD BLOCKING THERE IS.
Privacy
It's a simple fact of the way that web sites work that web site owners have data as to how many people visited our site, what area of the country they are from, what search engine they came from to find us, and various non-personally identifiable stuff like that. We can also get a list of IP addresses of everyone that comes to our site, although we can't really do much with it unless there is some legal reason for investigators to track you down (such as if you have been hacking web sites). I occasionally look at the non-personally identifiable data to learn about SelectHike's site demographics, this helps to refine what types of information I present based on user interest. For instance, by analyzing web traffic data I learned that far more people are interested in foothills hiking than big mountain hiking, therefore I am expanding SelectHike's foothills trail information.
SelectHikes has NO access to personal information that you submit if you order something through our Amazon.com affiliate site.
